Amarinder asks rebels to retire from contest
Sunam Punjab, Feb 2 (UNI) Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh today asked Congress rebels contesting against party official candidates to retire from the contest immediately.
Addressing an election rally in support of Congress candidate Aman Arora from Sunam, he said as many as 937 aspirants had applied for the party ticket and only 117 of them could be given the tickets.
He said most of the rebels had withdrawn their candidature in favour of the official candidates and now only 7 to 8 rebel candidates were left in the fray.
These rebels, he said, should realise their potential and winning capacity instead of claiming their right over the ticket. The tickets were allotted to candidates after due diligence by the party high command, he added.
Capt Singh claimed the Congress was confident of securing an absolute majority in the elections and would surely form the next government because the people wanted development to be carried forward in the state.
The Chief Minister said elections would be held in a free, fair and transparent manner at all costs.
