Yahoo! goes 'desi' with seven Indian languages
Bangalore, Feb 1 (UNI) Yahoo India today launched seven regional language portals bringing in a new experience to web browsers across the country.
The largest internet brand in the country with a 85 per cent online base, accessed by about 30 million browsers, Yahoo India today said that internet users could now access content related features in Hindi, Kannada, Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, Punjabi and Gujarati.
Putting the consumers at the centre of the Web experience, the new 'yahoo.co.in' would now let the internet user to stay up-to-date on the latest news, trends and buzz about the goings on in the world with just a click of the launguage tab of one's choice.
Speaking to newsmen here on the language portalsr, Yahoo India Managing Director George Zacharias said, '' to make Yahoo relevant to the next 200 million Indians who will come online in the next five years we have added value and excitement for our users and advertisers.'' He said the diverse content included news in different categories including stock market updates, daily horoscopes and astrology, cookery section, health, infortainment and a dedicated literature section.
The company also announced an update on its popular Messenger Indichat module which now facilitated chatting in nine regional languages from three languages earlier. The Yahoo plug-in now enables users to chat in languages using a English keyboard. For those who did not want to use the keyboard, the mouse could also used as a soft keyboard, he said.
The user could just load the Side Panel plug-in at http://gallery.yahoo.com/apps/2047 and start chatting in any of the nine languages, the official added.
