Voting begins in Nagpur, Akola, Amravati
Nagpur, Feb 1 (UNI) Voting for the 186 wards in the Municipal Corporations in Nagpur, Amravati and Akola in Vidarbha region of Maharashtra began at 0730 hours today amid tight security.
A total of 21,29,096 voters will decide the fate of 2,317 candidates contesting the polls in the three cities.
The voting was moderate during the first four hours in Nagpur.
Around 15 per cent of the voters had cast their ballot by 1130 hours, Additional Deputy Municipal Commissioner Ajay Ramteke said adding that the voting had been peaceful with no untoward incident.
There are 14,40,598 voters in Nagpur, with 1,147 candidates in the fray from 135 wards. Election in one ward has been countermanded due to the death of one candidate there. In Amravati, 2,83,122 voters will decide the fate of 672 candidates in the 81 wards. In Akola, 4,05,376 voters will decide the fate of 498 candidates from 70 wards. The Congress nominee in one ward has been elected unopposed.
