Lucknow, Feb 1 (UNI) Against the backdrop of the Sachar Committee report on the general condition of minorities in the country, Uttar Pradesh government has constituted 'UP Commission for Minorities Participation and Education'.

The newly-constituted body will suggest ways for increasing the share of minorities in government jobs and give impetus to their education.

The tenure of the commission has been fixed at three months, which can, however, be extended at the discretion of the state government.

Member secretary and secretary state minorities welfare and waqf department Chandra Prakash said here today, ''several educational programmes aimed at the minorities are being run by the central and state governments.'' However, desired results are not being achieved, he lamented. The recent step of the UP government is to plug existing loopholes in this regard.

The commission has been mandated to give suggestions on madarsas' curriculum, suggest changes therein, so that such students join the mainstream of society in due course.

Besides, the commission will also submit a report on government services, commercial sector, law, technical and management education with focus on the minorities.

The commission will extend the scope of its report to accomodate any further reference made to it by the state government.

Meanwhile, the state government has solicited suggestions in this regard from general public, especially members of the minority community.
