UDF's no-confidence motion against LDF sees light
Pathanamthitta, Feb 1 (UNI) The no-confidence motion moved by the United Democratic Front (UDF) against the ruling Left Democratic Front (LDF) in the Pathanamthitta Muncipal Council was passed today.
In the 29 member Municipal Council, 15 councillors supported the motion. Two Woman councillors, who defected from the LDF and the lone BJP councillor joined hands with the 12 Congress councillors to pass the motion.
At 0900 hrs today, when the no-confidence motion was taken up for discussion, apart from the 12 Congress members, Rosamma Kuriakose of Kerala Congress (J) and Sandhya Santhosh (Independent) who crossed over from the LDF to the UDF and the BJP Member Ambily Rajendran were present at Municpal council.
From the 14 Members strong ruling LDF, only Sakir Hussain the Secretary of LDF Parliamentary party, attended the discussion on no-trust motion.
Kollam zonal Joint Director of Muncipalities M A Sreedharan Nair Chaired the meeting as Presiding Officer.
Mr P Mohan Raj moved the no-trust motion against Chairperson Amrutham Gokulan and A Shamshudin seconded it. The presiding officer himself declared the result.
In the afternoon, at 1400 hrs, the Muncipal council reassembled to consider no-confidence motion against Vice-Chairman P C Muhammed Sali which was presented by A Suresh Kumar and seconded by K R Ajith Kumar.
The voting pattern was repeated this time also. On the directive of the Kerala High Court and the State Election Commission, Police took no chance and sanitised the Municipal bulding area with heavy deployment of armed personnel. IG Arunkumar Sinha and DIG Nithin Agarwal camped here and oversaw the arrangements.
The proceedings of the Civic body was obstructed by the LDF councillors and supporters on January 10.
