TMMK files police complaint against Nasrin

Chennai, Feb 1 (UNI) The Tamil Nadu Muslim Makkal Katchi (TMMK) today filed a police complaint against exiled Bangladeshi writer Taslima Nasrin for her recent article in an English magazine.

In the complaint to City Police Commissioner Letika Saran, TMMK President S M Pasha said the article, 'Let's Burn the Burqa' was derogatory to Islam and highly inflammatory in nature.

''It has been written with a wilful, mischievous and malicious intention of outraging religious beliefs and cultural sentiments of the Muslim minorities'', he added.

He said the gross and deliberate insult attracted provisions of Section 295 (A) (deliberate and malicious Acts, intended to outrage religious feelings of any class by insulting its religion or religious beliefs) read with Section 505 (statements conducting to public mischief) of the Indian Penal Code.

Mr Pasha urged the Commissioner to initiate criminal proceedings against the writer, Editor-in-Chief, Publisher and Printer of the magazine.
