Sting operation nets cops

Barwani, MP, Feb 1 (UNI) A departmental inquiry has been initiated against six police personnel and three home guards who indulged in extortion from vehicle drivers, on the Agra-Mumbai National Highway in this district, and were exposed on camera by a police sting operation.

''The November 6, 2006 operation exposed the personnel in three police station areas. Earlier, repeated warnings failed to bring about any improvement,'' Deputy Inspector-General (Nimad Range) Vipin Maheshwari said here today.

After being exposed, the police personnel were line-attached and a directive issued that the home guards would not be stationed on the highway.
