Ramadoss hails SC order on reservation for SC/ST

Tindivanam (Tamil Nadu), Feb 1: Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK) founderleader S Ramadoss today hailed the Supreme Court's order, giving thenod for providing 22.5 per cent reservation for Scheduled Caste andScheduled Tribe (SC/ST) in Post-graduate admissions to GovernmentMedical Colleges, stating that it would secure a unique place in thehistory of reservation.

Talking to newspersons at his Thailapuram garden residence here,Dr Ramadoss said the apex court's order comes as a boon to SC/STcandidates, who were hitherto deprived of reservation in PG admissionsto Government Medical colleges under the all-India quota.

This was possible thanks to the initiatives taken by the UnionHealth Ministry, headed by his son and Minister Anbumani Ramadoss, hesaid adding ''this is a gift presented by Dr Anbumani Ramadoss to 25crore SC/ST population in the country.'' The Supreme Court has givenits approval for providing reservation for SC/ST candidates in thefirst phase and this order would pave way for reservation for backwardclasses in PG admissions to Government Medical Colleges under theAll-India quota, he added.
