President Kalam calls for research on Vedas
Mantralayam, Andhra Pradesh, Feb 1 (UNI) President APJ Abdul Kalam today called for carrying out research on Vedas, particularly Atharva Veda, for eliciting many valuable information in Science and Technology relating to medicine, flight sciences, material sciences and many other related fields.
Interacting with students of Sree Guru Sarvabhouma Sanskrit Vidyapeetam here, he said Sanskrit is a beautiful language, which had enriched the Indian society from time immemorial.
He suggested that the Sanskrit Vidyapeetam must locate missing literature in Sanskrit available in palm leaves in different parts of the country so that they could be digitalised for posterity.
For this purpose, he wanted the Academy to get in touch with Prof N. Balakrishnan of the Indian Institute of Science (IIS), Bangalore who was piloting a digital library project for India.
He wanted the students to go into details of lives of great scholars, poets and epic creators like Valmiki, Ved Vyas, Kalidas and Panini.
Playing an audio CD rendered by Tatwamasi Dixit of Chennai-based Ojas Foundation highlighting the importance of Vedas, he said Medha (power of retention) and Maneesha (power of assimilation) should come together and help the devotee to assimilate the present knowledge in relation to the past and the future.
''While the power of retention will help the devotee to understand the past and the present, the power of assimilation will help him to learn the lessons for the future from the past and present experiences,'' the President added.
