Politiking in Punjab upsets CM

Shimla, Feb 1 (UNI) Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh today regretted the way poll campaign was going on in Punjab, saying it was against the spirit of democracy.

''The electioneering there is all about character assassination.

The Election Commission must take note of it. The campaign should not allow people to hurl abuses and allegations, proved and unproved, through advertisements. This also amounts to corrupt practices,'' he said while talking to reporters here.

Expressing concern over the trend, Mr Singh said said as a senior citizen of the country he would write to the EC to ban such a trend, which is against the true spirit of democracy.
