Police gun down two criminals

Lucknow, Feb 1 (UNI) Uttar Pradesh Police gunned down two criminals on the run after allegedly robbing a man of Rs 1.56 lakh in Bhelupur area of Varanasi district in Uttar Pradesh.

According to the DGP office here, two armed miscreants intercepted Lakshmandhari Tiwari near Shivpur railway crossing last night and decamped with the money he was carrying.

Getting the information, a police team swung into action and soon nabbed them.

The duo again tried to escape snatching the service rifle of a police constable.

When persued and challenged, the criminals fired at the cops and in the ensuing encounter both were killed on the spot.

The slain criminals were yet to be identified.

Two firearms, a motorcycle and Rs 1.56 was recovered from the spot.

A case had been registered in this regard.
