PLA to boycott Plus II exams to press demand

Puducherry, Feb 1 (UNI) The Puducherry Lecturers Association (PLA) would boycott the Plus Two examinations here till their long pending demand was met, Association president S K Subramanian said today.

Talking to newspersons here, he said as many as 527 lecturers in 41 school of Puducherry and Karaikal were on a sit-in strike from January 29, demanding that the lecturers be given 50 per cent reservation in filling the posts of Headmaster in higher secondary schools.

Stating that the particular demand was pending before the government for about 20 years, Mr Subramanian said a draft Recruitment Rule (RR) providing for 50 per cent seats to lecturers and 50 per cent to middle school headmasters for promotion as headmaster (grade-1) was prepared two years back.

It was stated that the concurrence of the UPSC was required for its implementation and for the last two years the fate of the draft RR was not known, he said and added that notice was given to the government three months back in this regard.

The agitation would continue till their demands were conceded, he added.
