Paddy cultivation registers steady increase

Thanjavur, Tamil Nadu, Feb 1 (UNI) With harvest of Sambha paddy crops in Cauvery Delta Districts in Thanjavur, Tiruvarur and Nagapattinam at its peak, the arrival of paddy in Tamil Nadu Civil Supply Corporation(TNCSC) has registered steady increase.

According to TNSCS sources the daily arrival of paddy to direct purchase centre was about five to six tonnes. The supply may increase.

The TNSCSC had opened 879 direct purchase centre in Thanjavur, Tiruvarur and Nagapattinam districts to purchase from farmers. They also provided an equipment to clean the paddy.

In Delta districs, the Samba and Thaladi varieties of paddy were being cultivated in about one million acre. The harvest has so far covered 30 per cent of the acre and the remaining areas would be completed by this month, the sources added.

The yield was by and large normal, according to farmers.
