Maruti posts highest ever domestic sales during Jan

New Delhi, Feb 1 (UNI) Maruti Udyog Ltd today posted its highest ever monthly sales in the month of January at 62,248 vehicles, up 28.3 per cent.

The company's previous high was 61,141 vehicles in March 2006.

However, the sales of the company's flagship car Maruti 800 declined 15 per cent at 7,021 units as against 8,262 units in January 2006.

In all, it sold 65,341 vehicles in the month registering a 30 per cent hike over 50,109 units a year earlier. The exports stood at 3,093 vehicles, almost double from 1,583 an year ago.

In A2 segment comprising Alto, Wagon-R, Zen and Swift, the car market leader sold record 44,736 vehicles in January, a 41.8 per cent growth over sales during the same period last year.

The previous highest was 38,940 vehicles in October 2006.

In C segment with Omni and Versa models, the sales increased by 40.8 per cent.
