Kalpana Chawla remembered
Karnal, Feb 1 (UNI) Memories of India born American astraunant Kalpana Chawla, who had died in the Columbia shuttle crash in 2003, came alive as she was paid rich tributes at her alma mater Tagore Bal Niketan School on her fourth anniversary of death today.
Haryana Congress Mahila President and Karnal MLA Sumita Singh, Anti-terrorist Front President M S Bitta, Deputy Comissioner B S Malik, Principal of Tagore School Rajan Lamba, staff and the students eulogised Kalpana Chawla while paying floral tributes at her portrait.
Karnal M P Arvind Sharma's father Satguru Dass announced Rs 1100 from his pension and Rs one lakh from his sons's MPLAD Fund to the Kalpana Chawla Memorial Hall to be built by the school.
Kalpana's father B D Chawla who had attended all three previous anniversary functions at her alma mater, remained conspicuous by his absence today. He, however, told UNI on phone that he was out of station.
Meanwhile, ''Kalpana Chawla Yadgaar Samiti' today submited a memorandum to the district D C demanding a Medical College in Karnal, a road and the local bus stand named after Kalpana Chawla.
