JP Industries to set up cement plant in HP

Shimla, Feb 1 (UNI) The Himachal Pradesh Government today signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Jaiparkash Industries for the setting up cement plant in Churah Tehsil of Chamba district.

The plant with two million tonne annual capacity will be constructed at an estimated cost of Rs 800 crore, providing direct employment to 1,000 people and to over 5,000 indirectly.

State Industries Principal Secretary Prem Kumar and Jaiparkash Industries Executive Chairman signed the MoU in presence of Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh and Industries Minister Kuldeep Kumar here.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr Singh said the condition of 70 per cent employment to Himachali people, under the new industrial, policy will also be applicable to the cement plants being set up in the state.

He said the company will also provide employment to one member of every family displaced due to the construction of the plant during the construction period and on regular basis immediately after the unit begins production.

The company will also associate the state Industries Department, while carrying the recruitment process to different categories of people for the project, he said.

The Chief Minister said besides, adequately compensating the displaced people, the government will have to spend 1.5 per cent of the project cost towards local area development.
