J&K VO chargesheets former ex-welfare officer

Srinagar, Feb 1 (UNI) In its continued drive against corrupt officials, Jammu and Kashmir Vigilance Organisation (VO) today filed a chargesheet against Kowser Naqashbandi, former Tehsil Social Welfare Officer Tangmarg in a local Court for demanding and accepting a bribe.

The VO has produced challan against two dozen government officials under Prevention of Corruption Act during the past three months.

A spokesman for the VO said on November 21,2005, Mohammad Abdullaha Mir, a resident of Qazipura Tangmarg, lodged a written complaint with Police Station VO, Kashmir, alleging that the accused then posted as Tehsil Social Welfare Officer Tangmarg is demanding illegal gratification for release of Rs 21600 as scholarship sanctioned by the Central government under National Foundation of Communal Harmony Scheme in favour of children of his deceased son who was killed by militants in 1994.

He said a case FIR Number 34/2005 P/S VOK was registered and investigation taken up.

In the course of investigation the Vigilance team laid a successful trap during which the accused Social Welfare Officer was caught red-handed while accepting bribe of Rs 500. The tainted money was recovered from her possession in presence of independent witnesses.

After accord of sanction for prosecution by the Government the challan of the case was produced in the Court of Special Judge Anti Corruption Kashmir. The court has fixed the case for next hearing on February 21 2007.
