Haryana launches SMS helpline for farmers

Chandigarh, Feb1: Taking benefit of the cutting edge of technology, farmers in Haryana can now send SMSs about their problems to the state Agriculture department and receive solutions thereof.

Haryana Agriculture Minister Harmohinder Singh Chatha today launched an SMS helpline (Mob No 99158-62026 rptg 99158-62026) for the farmers of the state so that they they could get advice of the Agriculture department on their various problems.

Agriculture Director R K Khullar said farmers could not only send SMS text but also send picture messages of a crop disease, for example, to get an expert advice.

The mobile line was linked with the office computer of the department and all messages that the department would receive would be promptly addressed.

Mr Khullar said it was much more convenient for the department officials to tackle the problems of farmers through SMS rather than direct conversation over a telephone or mobile.
