Gogoi asks Centre's help to develop state tourism
New Delhi, Feb 1 (UNI) Requesting the Central Government to assist Asom in developing its tourism sector, state Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi today urged Union Tourism Minister Ambika Soni to take it as a ''special case''.
In half-an-hour-long meeting here with Ms Soni, Mr Gogoi said the Centre should help the state to develop Eco-Tourism and Majuli- the largest river island in the world, as major tourist destinations of the North Eastern Region (NER).
He also requested the Centre to get hotel Ashoka Bramhaputra renovated before the commencement of the 33rd National games, schedued to start from February 9, to enable the state government to accommodate foreign as well as domestic tourists.
He said the Centre should also help the state in preserving the old manuscripts, a heritage useful not only for the state but the entire nation.
