Chautala hits out at Cong in Punjab

Chandigarh, Jan 31 (UNI) Campaigning for the SAD-BJP alliance in Punjab, former Haryana Chief Minister Om Parkash Chautala today accused the Congress of ''trying to divert the attention of the electorate by violence and unfair means in the face of defeat.'' ''Congress has become frustrated in the face of an imminent defeat for them in Punjab and is trying to divert the attention of electorate by violence and unfair means,'' the INLD chief said while addressing an election meeting at Dirba in Patiala District.

Mr Chautala held the Congress responsible for prevalent poverty, corruption and unemployment and accused it of dividing the people on caste, creed and regional basis to rule the country.

He criticised the Congress governments for acquiring farmers' land for setting up Special Economic Zones (SEZs). ''SEZs are the deep-rooted conspiracy to destablise the farming community.'' Mr Chautala also addressed public meetings at Sangatpura village, Sheron and Sunam in favour of SAD candidate Parminder Singh Dhindsa.
