B'lore: Y Gopala Rao retires as BEL CMD

Bangalore, Feb 01: Mr Y Gopala Rao, Chairman and Managing Directorof Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL), retired on superannuation onJanuary 31.

He took over as CMD, BEL, on October 1, 2003.

With his strong background in technology and expertise inmanufacturing of professional electronics equipment and components, MrGopala Rao has made significant contribution to the growth of theorganisation in its various facets. During his tenure, BEL has gonefrom strength to strength, a BEL press release said.

He has served on BEL's Board of Directors for 12 years, making him one of the longest serving directors.

Mr Gopala Rao was an instrumental in the formation of StrategicBusiness units at the Bangalore Complex of BEL. Also, BEL went in forSAP implementation across its units and offices. Recently, theBangalore Complex of BEL went live on SAP.

BEL's turnover has risen from Rs.2,508 crores in 2002-03 toRs.3,536 crores in 2005-06, PAT from Rs 260.6 crore to Rs 583 croresand Dividend from 70 per cent to 146 per cent in the same period. BELachieved its highest ever CAGR of 16 per cent during the last years.
