BIS conducts 25 enforcement raids nationwide
New Delhi, Feb 1 (UNI) Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) conducted 25 enforcement raids throughout the country on the companies misusing ISI mark without a valid licence on items of mass consmption.
The raids were carried out in Delhi, Haryana, Punjab, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh and Jharkhand, the BIS found the firms misusing ISI Mark on items of mass consumption which include packaged drinking water, switches and sockets, gas stoves, rubber mats, PVC insulated cables, submersible pumps and exhaust fans.
BIS Chief Vigilance Officer Anant Dhul informed that BIS would further intensify its raids against the erring firms, as these spurious household products were posing a serious threat to the safety and health of the consumers.
Mr Dhul also appealed to the public to give information about any misuse of ISI mark which would further help in taking action against the misusers.
The violators are liable to be punished with imprisonment upto one year and or fine upto Rs 50,000 or both and forfeiture of seized material, Mr Dhul said, adding Bureau would soon be launching legal proceedings against the violators.
