All-party delegation from Asom meets PM on delimitation

New Delhi, Feb 1 (UNI) A thirteen-member all- party delegation from the Asom Legislative Assembly, led by Speaker Tonko Bhahadur Rai, called on Prime Minister Manmohan Singh here today and requested him to keep the state out of the purview of the Delimitation Commission.

The members apprised Dr Singh of the various problems that the State would have to face if delimitation was carried out.

They said in view of the State's geographical and demographic nature, it was very important to continue with the present form of the delimitation system.

The sources said the Prime Minister gave a very patient hearing to their various possible problems in case delimitation was carried out and assured to look into the matter.
