About 60 per cent voting reported in Thane

Thane, Feb 1 (UNI) An average 60 per cent voting was reported in the election to the 116 wards of the Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC) here, where voter population is 9.5 lakhs.

Addressing a news conference, Municipal Commissioner Nandkumar Jantre said by and large, the polling was peaceful, barring a few minor sporadic incidents.

Of the 11 zones, half of them recorded more than 60 per cent polling, while the balanced was less than 60 per cent.

He said there were a few cases of bogus voting and in Shastrinagar locality, more than 200 voters who appeared with a proof of postal investments were not allowed to vote as the investments were recent and made after the announcement of the elections.

The Commissioner admitted that the polling process and verification of voters was in fact slow in some centres and corrective measures were taken either to provide additional staff or replace the staff.
