US army arrests two Romanian workers in Iraq
BUCHAREST, Jan 31 (Reuters) The US-led military forces in Iraq have arrested two Romanian workers at a base on suspicion of illegal filming military facilities, Romania's foreign ministry said today.
''The military police arrested them on October 31, 2006. They are under US jurisdiction. They are now facing an investigation,'' foreign ministry spokeswoman Corina Vintan told reporters.
Nelu Ilie, a 40-year-old electrician, and Adrian Ganceanu, a 39-year-old carpenter, had worked for a water bottling company in a military base in Iraq since May 2006.
The two men denied any wrongdoing when meeting officials from the Romanian embassy in Baghdad in November, Vintan said.
Romanian media reported the two were captured in Ramadi, west of Baghdad.
