Sandesha awards announced
Mangalore, Jan 31 (UNI) Dr Nadoja Cheenaveera Kanavi has been selected for the Sandesha Literature award (Kannada), while Ms Judith Mascarenhas of Mangalore and Mr Ramakrishna Joshi of Manohar Granthamala of Dharwad have bagged the Sandesha Special Recognition awards.
Announcing the awards at a press conference here today, Selection Committee Chairman and Writer Naa.D'Souza said that while Ms Mascarenhas would be honoured for empowering women and weaker sections of the society, Mr Joshi got the award for his service to Kannada language and literature.
The awards, carrying a cash prize of Rs 10,000 and a citation, would be presented at a ceremony to be held here on February 12. The awards were instituted by the Sandesha Foundation for Culture and Education under the auspices of the Karnataka Regional Catholic Bishop's Council.
Mr D'Souza said the Best Sandesha Literature awards went to Mr Victor Rodrigues (Konkani) and Mr Bannanje Babu Amin from Udupi (Tulu). While the Sandesha Media Education award was bagged by Kinnara Mela, Tumri, the Sandesha Art award went to Guddappa Jogi from Hosur in Sagar.
He said the Sandesha Journalism award and Sandesha Cinema/TV award were bagged by Dr G Ramakrishna, Editor of Hosathu from Bangalore, and B S Dwarakesh from Hunsur respectively. Mr Harekala Hajabba from Harekala had been selected for the Sandesha Education Award.
