New chief for Southern Air Command

Thiruvananthapuram, Jan 31 (UNI) Air Marshal Y R Rane will take over as the Air Officer Commanding-in-Chief of the Southern Air Command here tomorrow.

He succeeds Air Marshal P S Ahluwalia who was appointed as Air Officer Commanding-in-Chief of the Western Air Command.

Prior to his present appointment, Air Marshal Rane was heading the personnel branch at the Air Headquarters as Air Officer-in-Charge of personnel since September 2005.

An alumnus of the National Defence Academy, Air Marshal Rane was commissioned in the fighter stream of the Indian Air Force in 1969.

He had about 4,600 hrs of flying to his credit and had flown most of the fighter aircraft in the IAF inventory, an official press release here said today.
