New Delhi, Jan 30: Telephone tariffs in India, one of the lowestin the world, is set to fall further with the Telecom RegulatoryAuthority of India (TRAI) gearing up to reduce the Access DeficitCharge (ADC), a decision that was taken last year.

Top rankingsources in TRAI told UNI that a decision of TRAI has already been madein 2006 to reduce ADC as it is a depleting regime.

''Since the one year had expires in March, the first step would beto set up consultation with operators and open house discussions''sources added.

ADC cuts by TRAI had earlier resulted in reductions in domestic(STD) tariffs and also in both incoming and outgoing internationalcalls with the operators passing on the benefits to the subscribers.

But the move will draw flak from BSNL as it is a levy paid by alltelecom operators to BSNL and this allows the PSU to subsidise itsrural operations and fulfil its social obligations.
