Students should develop enduring values: Former Chief Justice
Chennai, Jan 30 (UNI) Former Chief Justice of India M N Venkatachaliah has called upon students to develop more enduring values, perhaps less in economic content of human relationships which demand politeness, courtesy, decency, understanding and caring.
Delivering the convocation address at the Ganadipathy Tulsi's Jain Engineering college Vellore, affiliated to Anna University, he said the students should honour human relationships. ''Pursuit of ambition of acquiring money, power, fame, prestige and authority are legitimate in this world. However this has to be done within the matrix of dharma,'' he added.
He said the Indian Universities should take a hard look on their attitude to teaching, research and development of basic sciences as all the break-throughs had come from basic sciences.
Emphasising on the pre-eminence of English as a link language, he said India and China would emerge as a strong Asian Economic Community. ''The knowledge era will be synonymous with managing all forms of knowledge,'' he added.
