IAF gets first helicopter pilot as chief

New Delhi, Jan 30 (UNI) Upholding the principle of seniority, the government today announced that Air Marshal Fali Homi Major would be the next Chief of Air Staff, making him the first non-fighter pilot to command one of the largest air forces of the world.

Air Marshal Major, currently serving as the Air Officer Commanding-in-Chief of the Shillong-based Eastern Air Command, will succeed Air Chief Marshal S P Tyagi, who retires on March 31.

A helicopter pilot, Air Marshal Major also becomes one of the first IAF chiefs not to have commanded the frontline Western Air Command.
