Youth sentenced to capital punishment in rape and murder case

Angul, Orissa, Jan 29(UNI) A 25 year-old youth was today awarded death penalty for raping and murdering a minor girl at Kundajhari village under Thakurgarh police station limit on September 11,2004.

Angul Additional District and Session Judge Ajay Kumar Dey held Duryadhan Rout guilty on circumstantial evidence.The accused, according to the prosecution, took the girl to a nearby village jungle where he raped and strangulated her to death. He later covered the body with leaves.

The judge in his order observed that life imprisonment would be inadequate for such a crime and awarded capital punishment along with ten-year lifer and additional one year for the charges under 302,376 and 201 IPC. The punishment will go concurrently, the Judge ordered.
