Traffic brought to a standstill on NH 44
Shillong, Jan 29 (UNI) Traffic came to a grinding halt today on National Highway in Meghalaya's Jaintia Hills following an altercation between police and a truck driver.
According to an official report, the truck drivers blocked the road after a policeman assaulted one of the drivers.
The NH 44 is the lifeline and a vital communication link between various North-Eastern states and serves a considerable population of the states of Mizoram, Tripura, part of Meghalaya and Manipur and Barrak balley of Asom.
Jaintia Hills district Superintendent of Police H Nongpluh rushed to the site to sort out the problems.
The movement of vehicles resumed after senior police officials assured the agitating truck drivers of action against those involved in assaulting the truck driver.
