Chennai, Jan 29 (UNI) The Tamil Nadu Thowheed Jammath (TNTJ) today staged a state-wide demonstration urging the Central and state Governments to provide exclusive reservation for Muslims in education and jobs.

In a press release here, TNTJ State Secretary Mohamed Munir said over one lakh Muslims held demonstrations in 36 different places of Tamil Nadu.

At Chennai, TNTJ volunteers led by District Presidents Nijamuddin and Inayathullah staged a demonstration.

In his speech, TNTJ President B Jainul Abideen claimed both the Central and State Governments were hesitating to fulfil the 'reasonable' demand of the Muslims and wanted the government to provide separate reservation for them.

Though the present DMK Government announced in the Governor's address in the State Assembly soon after the party came to the power that exclusive reservation for Muslims would be given, it was still on paper only, he alleged.

Moreover, the DMK Government had constituted a commission to go into the question of providing exclusive reservation for Muslims.

But the commission did not have even a single Muslim as member.

Besides, the government had also given two years time for the commission to submit its report which was a 'purely delaying tactic' on the state's part.

It was high time for the governments to provide exclusive quota for Muslims and urged them to honour the promise immediately.

Mr Jainul Abideen warned the Tamil Nadu Government if this demand was not be met before July this year, the TNTJ will resort to Jail Bharo agitation in Tamil Nadu.

Earlier, the TNTJ held a rights retrieval rally from Munroe Statue to Chepauk, the venue of the demonstration.
