Suzlon Energy's subsi to set up gearbox unit

New Delhi, Jan 29: Suzlon Energy today announced Belgium-based Hansen Transmissions International NV, a step-down subsidiary of the company, will set up a gearbox factory with an estimated investment of Rs 980 crore near Coimbatore.

The factory, which will manufacture gearboxes for wind turbines in the megawatt range for supply to Suzlon Energy and other wind turbines manufacturers in India, is slated to be operational by the end of 2008.

''It is estimated that the factory will reach its full production capacity by early 2010 with an output of 1,500-2,000 gearboxes per annum and would generate over 600 job opportunities in Coimbatore,'' the company said in a statement.

In another announcement, the company said, as on date, its order book position stands at Rs 7,716.23 crore including domestic orders worth Rs 1,544 crore and export orders of Rs 6,172 crore.

The domestic order book position includes order received from British Petroleum for supply of 32 units of 1.25 MW turbines aggregating to 40 MW capacity at Dhule site in Maharashtra.

The export order book includes order received by Suzlon Energy Australia Pty Ltd, Australia, the step-down subsidiary of the company for supply of 42 units of the 2.1 MW turbines to Snowtown Wind Farm Pty Ltd, a subsidiary of New Zealand based TrustPower Ltd, for installation in south Australia.
