REL gets Hisar Thermal Power Project
Chandigarh, Jan 29 (UNI) The Haryana cabinet today accorded its ''administrative'' approval to award the turnkey implementation of 1200 MW Hisar Thermal Power Project to Reliance Energy Limited (REL).
''The rates offered by Reliance are the lowest among the contemporaneous projects being executed by other states,'' an official spokesman said after a decision to this effect was taken in a cabinet meeting.
The State Government had accorded its approval to the Haryana Power Generation Corporation Limited ( HPGCL) for setting up of a 1200 MW (2 x 600 MW) coal based Thermal Power Project at Hisar in the State sector through International Competitive Bidding route.
The decision to allot the setting up of the power project to M/s Reliance Energy Limited had been taken for it being the lowest bidder among the international competitive bidders in terms of revised evaluated cost per MW as per evaluation criteria stipulated in the NIT specifications, the spokesman said.
The HPGCL had already acquired 989 acres of land near Barwala in Hisar district. The project had been included by the Ministry of Power in the capacity addition programme for 11th Plan period.
This is the first project in the Northern Region to be awarded Mega Project Status with attendant benefits under Mega Project Policy of the Central Government.
This had resulted in reduction of cost and inter-alia lower cost of generation / tariff, he said.
With the Commissioning of this Project, additional 288 lakh units would be generated per day which would be sufficient to cater to additional 4.4 lakh consumers that is 11 per cent of the existing consumers.
