Punjab Congress promises development fund for sportspersons
Chandigarh, Jan 29 (UNI) The Congress today promised to substantially improve sports infrastructure in Punjab and set up a Sports Development Fund for the sportspersons of the state.
The promise was made in the party's election manifesto of the Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee (PPCC) which was released by AICC general secretary Janardhan Dwivedi here today in the presence of Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh and PPCC chief Shamsher Singh Dullo.
For recognition and motivation of our players, the manifesto promised the introduction of special school/college based scholarship scheme.
The Congress also promised to set up a Punjab State Sports Authority on the pattern of National Sports Authority under the Chairmanship of Chief Minister to ensure focused development of sports infrastructure in the state.
The manifesto also refered to strengthening of rural sports clubs and youth clubs, fully equipping and linking these with government and government aided educational institutions to increase their functional ability.
Punjab Congress would relentlessly work towards freeing the youth of Punjab from the curse of drug abuse by promoting sports, the manifesto said. It would encourage NGOs and community based initiatives and encourage development of sports infrastructure for the benefit of youths.
