Online grocery purchase portal launched

Bangalore, Jan 29: People standing in long queues to purchase groceries may soon be passe, thanks to an e-commerce portal launched by AL Technologies, enabling one to order grocery requirements online.

Talking to newspersons here today, AL Technologies Managing Partner, Arun Sundaram, said the Silicon Valley of India occupied third position in online purchases in the country, after Mumbai and Delhi. The new portal www.ecityindia.com, which would start functioning from February one, would help people to order grocery from the cosy comforts of their home or office.

Orders would be delivered within eight hours to begin with and the time taken for door delivery could be reduced later, depending on the order. Besides good quality, the consumer would be given an opportunity to exchange the products if they were not satisfied.

To a question, he said that till March end, delivery was free of charge. However, from April, five per cent of the order would be charged as delivery cost and the minimum order should be Rs 500. The cost would be ten per cent less than the maximum retail price.

As many as 56 categories of groceries and 3,500 brands were now available to choose from. Eventually, it was proposed to introduce electronic goods, cooking gas, courier and laundry.
