Miscreants attempt to torch passenger train

Varanasi, Jan 29 (UNI) Unidentified miscreants allegedly tried to set ablaze a passenger train at the Manduadih railway station here today.

When the Manduadih-Gorakhpur-Lucknow Krishak Express was standing at the station, four miscreants stormed into the train and tried to torch a compartment reserved for the handicapped passengers, train's guard Basant Lal told newspersons.

The matter was brought to the notice of the station authorities, after the passengers spotted smoke billowing out from the concerned compartment.

The fire was swiftly doused and there, however, was no casuality reported.

While the guard and the passengers alleged that the incident was the handiwork of miscreants, the station officials said the matter was being investigated.
