Konkan Railway achieves record-breaking profit of Rs 292 cr

Mumbai, Jan 29 (UNI) For the first time since its inception, the Konkan Railway (KR) today announced a record-breaking operating surplus of a whopping Rs 89 crore and total earnings of Rs 292 crore, almost double that of last year, for the financial year 2005-06.

KR's operating surplus has risen to Rs 89 crore, for the period ended December 31, 2006 as compared to Rs 46 crore during the same period in the previous year.

Consequently, while the total earnings of the corporation ended December 2005 was Rs 216 crore, in December '06 it has surged to Rs 292 crore, registering an increase of 35 per cent, an offficial release said here.

Interestingly, freight earnings have also shot up to Rs 146 crore from Rs 83 crore last year, the release added.
