JC of 11 accused in Khairlanji case extended to February 12

Nagpur, Jan 29 (UNI) A court in Bhandara today extended till February 12 the Judicial custody of 11 persons, named as accused in the charge-sheet filed by CBI, in connection with the killing of four members of a dalit family by villagers in Khairlanji in Bhandara district of Maharashtra.

The 1st Ad Hoc Judge and Additional Sessions Judge S S Das extended the custody of the 11 persons.

The Judge granted bail to Sarpanch of Khairlanji, Upasrao Khandate, and his deputy, Urkuda Khurpe, against whom investigations are on in connection with the case.

Meanwhile, six other accused were granted bail till February 12 by Judicial Magistrate First Class (JMFC), Mohadi (district Bhandara), P Y Ladekar. They are Hassan Dhande, Krishna Dhande, Kamal Dhande, Manda Dhande, Anudas Khandate and Rupchand Khandate.

The eight granted bail today are among the 35 against whom investigations are still on. The remaining 27 have already been granted bail, which was extended till February 12 by the Magistrate.

Surekha Bhotmange (45), daughter Priyanka (18), and sons Roshan (23) and Sudhir (21) were lynched by a mob in Khairlanji late on the night of September 29 last over a land dispute. The probe was handed over to the CBI, which has filed a charge-sheet against 11 of the 46 persons against whom the police had initiated investigations.
