Jawan killed in encounter

Imphal, Jan 29 (UNI) A jawan was killed in an encounter between army troops and cadres of United National Liberation Front (UNLF) in between Tingphai and Layang village of Manipur's Chandel district last evening.

Police today said there were still reports of exchange of fire in the area and the place was under the control of UNLF. Assam Rifles and army personnel were sent to the area and had been fighting to sanitise the area.

Meanwhile, election officials said arrangements may be made for the villagers who were displaced due to the conflict.

Police said four Peoples United Liberation Front(PULF) cadres were shot dead yesterday at Thoubal district by unknown armed persons.
