Jammu, Jan 29 (UNI) Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad reiterated the government's keen resolve to catapult development of education in far-off and cut-off areas adding that these areas require focus of attention for their backwardness.

Replying to supplementaries to a question in legislative assembly today Mr Azad said he had discussed the issue of opening new colleges and higher educational institutions in these areas including Tangdhar with Prime Minister highlighting the importance of such a creation.

Mr Azad said he had found these areas lagging behind in the development of education, especially in the field of higher education for their remoteness. Some urban colleges are highly populated with students making smooth conduct of education unmanageable, as such establishment of additional colleges in these areas is also required, he added.

He said central approval to his proposal of opening up of new colleges and higher education institutions is likely to come this year, helping the state government to carry forward its plan of expansion in this regard.
