Haul of arms and ammunition seized
Mumbai, Jan 29 (UNI) City police today averted a possible sabotage on the high profile civic elections scheduled to be on February one, here by arresting one person with a cache of arms and ammunition from his possession.
Addressing reporters here, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Dhananjay Kamlakar said, acting on a tip-off that one person will come to Kurla Bus Depot in eastern suburbs to deliver the arms and ammunition to an anti-social organisation, police laid a trap.
At around 0850 hrs, when a person came at the specified spot, the police nabbed him and seized one country made revolver, six country made pistols and 50 live cartridges from him. He is identified as Machhalal Sanap Sunder (40).
Sunder was hailing from Bandha taluka in Uttar Pradesh. He revealed during interrogations that he had come to deliver arms and ammunition to a party which required them to sabotage the February one elections.
Sunder is wanted in three cases including extortion, attempt to murder and murder in UP, he added.
He was produced before Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate S Y Shisode this afternoon, who remanded him to police custody till February 12.
