Explosives seized in Guwahati

Guwahati, Jan 29 (UNI) An IED and a grenade were recovered from a bag in Gorchuk area of Guwahati in Asom today.

Police said a stranger had deposited the bag, from which the explosives were seized. He had given the bag to a family asking them to give it to their neighbour.

As the neigbour's house was locked, the family agreed to keep it.

But they grew suspicious over the weight of the bag.

When no one came to claim the bag for long, they informed the Gorchuk police outpost.

An Improvised Explosive Device (IED) and a grenade were recovered from the bag by the police. Both were later defused by the bomb disposal squad, police sources added.

Meanwhile, brown sugar, worth laks of rupees in the international market, was recovered from Sarumotoria area, under Dispur police station, in the city.

Three persons were also arrested in the connection.
