CPI candidate from Valtoha dies in road accident

Amritsar, Jan 29: CPI candidate from Valtoha assembly constituency Kulwinder Singh today died at a local private hospital following a road accident.

According to official sources here, Kulwinder Singh was seriously injured when his vehicle collided with a mini bus near Patti on Saturday. He was returning to Valtoha from Tarn Taran, where the scrutiny of nominations papers was taking place, when the accident occurred.

He was rushed to the hospital, where he is sccummbed to his injuries this morning. The Returning Officer of Tarn Taran has intimated the state Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) at Chandigarh.

The CEO office has referred the matter to the Election Commission of India (ECI). A decision on countermanding the election in Valtoha will be taken by the ECI, an officcial spokesman at the CEO office stated.
