183 offences regarding violation of electoral code at Nagpur
Nagpur, Jan 29 (UNI) A total of 14.44 lakh voters are slated to exercise their franchise for the February 1 civic election in Nagpur.
Speaking to mediapersons here municipal commissioner Lokesh Chandra today disclosed that 183 offences have been registered in connection with the violation of the electoral code of conduct here.
He said that the city had 6.97 lakh male and 7.47 female voters, who will cast their ballot at 1,247 booths.
''A total of 1,147 candidates are in the fray in the 135 wards where polls are being held. The election in one ward has been countermanded due to the death of a candidate there,'' Chandra said.
This would be the first time that electronic voting machines (EVMs) would be used in a civic election in Nagpur, he said and added that a total of 1,604 EVMs would be used in the polling, including stand-by units.
''The civic administration here had opened a call centre to help voters find out their polling booth. Electioneering for the civic polls in Nagpur, Amravati and Akola will end at 1730 hours tomorrow,'' he added.
