11 farmers commit suicide in Vidarbha
Nagpur, Jan. 29 (UNI) As many as 11 debt-ridden farmers committed suicide in the last three days in Vidarbha, activists here said.
According to the Vidarbha Jan Andolan Samiti (VJAS), a voluntary organisation working among farmers in the region, the 11 farmers who took the extreme step included 3 each from Yavatmal and Washim districts, 2 from Nagpur and one each from Chandrapur, Amravati and Wardha districts.
With this, the number of suicides in January 2007 had touched 62, VJAS said in a press release here today.
The number of suicides recorded by VJAS in 2006 was 1,280, the release added.
