UP looking at Rs 146 cr Entertainment Tax in FY07

Lucknow, Jan 28 (UNI) Uttar Pradesh is looking at Entertainment Tax (ET) revenue to the tune of Rs 146 crore in the current fiscal ending March 31, 2007.

In the first three quarters of FY07 till December 2006, over Rs 100 crore have been collected, which form under 70 per cent of the annual target.

We have already exceeded the tax collection target fixed at 68 per cent for the three quarters ended.

In fiscal 2005-06 during the same period, about Rs 82 crore were collected as tax revenue, state ET commissioner Sabharaj Singh said here today.

''Thus, we have registered 22 per cent growth in ET collection in the first three quarters of current financial year,'' he added.

In December 2006 alone, the department collected Rs 11.47 crore against the target of Rs 11.39 crore. In December 2005, the ET revenues stood at Rs 8.36 crore.

Besides, the department allowed rebate to be tune of Rs 96 lakh to the multiplexes in the state last month, as per the new policy to attract investment in the sector.

Several multiplexes are coming up all over UP, including the state capital of Lucknow.
