Traffic restrictions for Beating the Retreat ceremony

New Delhi, Jan 28: The Delhi Police has made elaborate traffic arrangements for the annual Beating the Retreat ceremony at the historic Vijay Chowk tomorrow which brings down curtains on the Republic Day celebrations.

Several traffic diversions have been put in place, between 1600-2130 hrs, for the gala event which sees the illumination of the Rashtrapati Bhawan, Parliament House, North and South Blocks among other government building in the Lutyens Zone.

While Vijay Chowk will remain closed to general traffic, no traffic will be allowed on Rafi Marg between Sunehri Masjid and Krishi Bhawan roundabout, according to the Delhi Traffic Police.

Traffic on Raisina Road from Krishi Bhawan roundabout towards Vijay Chowk and beyond the roundabouts at Dalhousie Road, Krishna Menon Marg and Sunehri Masjid towards Vijay Chowk will also be restricted.

No traffic will be allowed on Rajpath from Rafi Marg towards Vijay Chowk and on Rajpath between Rafi Marg and 'C'- Hexagon.

General traffic on Janpath, between Rajendra Prasad Road, Maulana Azad Road and Rafi Marg, between Krishi Bhawan and Sunheri Masjid would also not be allowed, Free parking would be available for general public between Rafi Marg and C-Hexagon -- India Gate on both sides of Rajpath lawans behind water channels.

Entry of city buses shall also be restricted and buses coming from Tughlaq Road for Rafi Marg will be stopped at Sunehri Bagh Road.

Also, while buses coming from C-Hexagon Road-Akbar Road-Rafi Marg will stop at Vigyan Bhawan, those coming from Shanti Path/Vinay Marg to reach Teen Murti will operate via Willingdon Crescent-Dr Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital.

Buses coming from Sikandra Road for Ferozshah Road-Raisina Road-Ashok Road will follow Barakhamba Road-Hailey Road-Tolstoy Marg-Sansad Marg-Patel Chowk and buses coming from Prithvi Raj Road-South End Road bound for Janpath-Connaught Circus will take Man Singh Road from Q-point and terminate opposite Vigyan Bhawan.

People are advised to avoid the above mentioned roads and follow traffic directions, to avoid inconvenience, the Traffic Police added.
