Phillaur, Jan 28 (UNI) Around 200 companies of the paramilitary forces and police forces of other states will assist the Punjab Police during the February 13 elections in 117 assembly constituencies and the Amritsar Parliamentary constituency.

The security forces will ensure free, fair, fearless and transparent assembly elections in the state, Director General of Police (DGP) R S Gill today said while talking to select mediapersons at the Punjab Police Academy here.

''The security arrangements for the polls are in place,'' the DGP said.

The DGP said 3065 polling booths had been identified as sensitive while 1258 were categorised as hyper sensitive out of a total of 16,349 polling booths of 10,262 polling stations in the state. He said additional security would be provided at all sensitive polling booths.

He made it clear that the police would not tolerate any political interference that could effect the election process. Leaders of all political parties would be provided security cover as per their necessity. he said.

Mr Gill said no violation of the election code of conduct would be allowed to any candidate of any political party.

Replying to a question, the DGP said the police were keeping a close watch on anti-social elements during polls.
